Empty Hats (2003) was an entirely experimental project, for various reasons. First, the drawing: I've used computerized coloring before, but for 'Hats' I went with completely digital artwork, done entirely in Freehand. It gave it a nice sort of flash-cartoon look, which isn't a style I really care for, but I wanted to make one go at it.

Second, the lettering; my original concept was to do create the text for the story from clippings from magazines, ads, etc. That proved a much more difficult and irritating job then I imagined, so I eventually just did my best to create that clipping-look with various fonts. I think it looks pretty good.

The plot, to top it all, is stupid, pointless and meaningless. But what the hell. It was fun to write.
